The early elaborate Hawkes cuttings were part of the American Brilliant cut glass period. Hawkes advertised his pieces in Harper's Magazine. Hawkes patented many of its designs, such as Chrysanthemum in 1890. The company created over 300 cut and engraved glass patterns. When T. G. Hawkes died in 1913, his son Samuel succeeded him.
