Description: This is the first telescope made by Warner & Swasey, a machine tool firm in Cleveland, Ohio, that would later provide mounts for the 30-inch refractor at the Lick Observatory in California (1887), the 40-inch at the Yerkes Observatory in Wisconsin (1897), and many other astronomical facilities.

Over the years the two were instrumental in upgrading the observatory, building a 24-36 inch Schmidt-type telescope and auditorium in 1939. The astronomy program continued growing, and a further addition was made in 1963. However, by the 1960's Cleveland had grown so large.
